Walpole Island officials say the elementary school on the First Nation reserve is set to re-open on February 16, 2021 for in-person learning.
“In lieu of the recent progress in reducing the number of active COVID-19 cases in Walpole Island and the surrounding areas, the re-opening of the Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig, the Anishinaabemowin Kinomaagewgamig program and the Bkejwanong Childcare Centre will be on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 for in-person learning and child care,” stated Dr. Cathy Martin, director of lifelong learning, in a notice to parents.
“Secondary students attending LKDSB can return to in-person learning on Monday, February 8, 2021.”
Dr. Martin added: “We would like to thank everyone for doing their part in helping control the spread of the COVID-19 virus by practicing good hygiene, social distancing, and using protective mouth and nose coverings. We also commend our families for doing their best with the challenges of remote learning.”
Dr. Martin said the staff of the Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig, the Anishinaabemowin Kinomaagewgamig program and the Bkejwanong Childcare Centre look forward to interacting with the children and ensuring a safe social and learning environment.
“Hence, it is important to continue to practice the safety guidelines regarding prevention of COVID-19 measures,” Dr. Martin added.
“Detailed updated COVID-19 measures will be communicated to families within the next few days. Remote learning remains an option for families throughout this pandemic. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these unprecedented times.”
Walpole Island officials have also released their outbreak management protocol and re-opening plan.
