Fairfield Park provides update, ‘overwhelmed’ by support & student thank-you video

The leadership team at Fairfield Park have issued an update, as the COVID-19 outbreak continues at their Dufferin Avenue long-term care home in Wallaceburg.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of a resident Saturday who had previously tested positive for COVID-19,” said Tracy Maxim, administrator at Fairfield Park, in a press release on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

“This resident will be missed by everyone here at Fairfield Park and I know our community will join us in extending our deepest condolences to their loved ones.”

Maxim added they have started receiving the results from their ongoing weekly surveillance testing efforts that took place on Monday.

“All results have come back negative with the exception of one staff member who is now self-isolating at home,” Maxim said.

“This is positive news for us and, as resident and staff cases continue to be resolved, Public Health has confirmed that our total number of active cases at Fairfield Park have decreased. We currently have 30 active resident cases of COVID-19 and 30 active cases among our staff.”

Maxim said people in the community may have noticed a large trailer parked in front of their home.

“This belongs to the Chatham Kent Health Alliance and is being used as extra office space for their staff that are supporting our care team in the home,” she said.

“We are grateful for their continued support and the support of our community partners including the Red Cross, Chatham Kent Public Health, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, our LHIN, Ontario Health, and our local EMS.”

Maxim said the Fairfield Park team also wanted to thank everyone who has sent kind words of encouragement to the home.

“Our staff have truly been overwhelmed by your emails, community sponsored staff meals, and most recently, the dedicated thank you video from students at Christ The King, St. Elizabeth, Holy Family and Sacred Heart Catholic School who are sending messages of hope to residents and staff at Fairfield Park,” Maxim said.

“We have posted all your messages in the home for our staff to read and will show this video on the TVs. Knowing that our community stands behind our home contributes in a real way to the work we do and reminds us that we will get through this together.”
