Theft from vehicle leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to the report of a theft from motor vehicle on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham where the owner’s wallet and a backpack full of tools were stolen.

Through investigation, police learned that the victim’s debit card had been used at three different businesses in Chatham.

With the assistance of video surveillance, police identified the man responsible.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man walking on Gray Street in Chatham, wearing the stolen backpack and same clothing as seen on video.

The man was arrested and upon being searched incident to arrest was found to be in possession of the victim’s wallet.

The 22-year-old Chatham man has been charged with several theft and fraud related offences. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Pair charged after being found together

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a residence in Chatham to assist paramedics with a medical call.

Officers located a man and woman together at the scene who were not supposed to associate with each other.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions, robbery and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The man was arrested and upon being searched was found to be in possession of a suspected fentanyl.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was charged with drug possession and three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The woman with whom the man was associating with was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach.

The 25-year-old woman, of no fixed address was released pending a future court date of March 10, 2021.

Disturbance leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance between two men known to each other at an apartment complex in Merlin.

Through investigation, police learned that the man threatened his neighbour.

As the man was placed under arrest, he pulled away from the officer and resisted arrest.

Following a short struggle, the man was taken into custody.

Upon being transported to police headquarters, the man slammed his head off the plexiglass partition in the cruiser, causing a laceration to his forehead.

The officer transported the man to the hospital for medical attention.

The man continued to be uncooperative at the hospital and threw an item, hitting a nurse.

Upon being medically cleared, the 28-year-old man was transported to police headquarters and charged with uttering threats, resist arrest and assault with a weapon.

He was released pending a future court date.

Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, a concerned citizen called police regarding a possible impaired driver on Sandys Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was driving erratically and all over the roadway.

The man struck two parked vehicles, failed to stop at multiple stop signs and came to a stop upon striking a tree and fence on Gregory Drive.

Police located the man, in the driver’s seat, with the truck still running and in drive.

The man was transported to hospital for medical attention and arrested for impaired driving.

Once medically cleared, the man was transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation.

As a result, the DRE officer believed the man was impaired by a drug.

A 63-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving.

He was released pending a future court date of March 17, 2021.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to the report of an unwanted man at a residence on Gray Street in Chatham.

Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was wanted for breach of probation.

A 51-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released pending a future court date of March 10, 2021.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police located a woman in Chatham who was wanted for breach of probation.

A 20-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was arrested and released pending a future court date.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police located a man in Chatham who was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident.

A 47-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released pending a future court date of March 10, 2021.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, a man in Sarnia was arrested on several outstanding CKPS warrants.

The 35-year-old man was transported back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor vehicle collision

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a three vehicle collision involving a school bus on Lacroix Street in Chatham.

Approximately 20 students were on the bus at the time that it was rear-ended.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $6,000.

A 17-year-old Chatham teen was charged with careless driving.
