Active COVID-19 cases continue to drop at Fairfield Park, first doses of vaccine administered

The active COVID-19 case count continues to drop at Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg.

Meanwhile, the first doses of vaccine were administered at the long-term care home over the weekend.

“Public Health has confirmed a further decrease in our number of active COVID-19 cases,” Tracey Maxim the administrator at Fairfield Park, said in a media release.

“We currently have three active cases among our residents and seven active cases among our staff. All other cases have been resolved.”

Maxim added: “On Saturday, we were pleased to have EMS in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, in our home to administer the first doses of the Moderna vaccine to residents who have, until this point, tested negative for COVID-19.”

Maxim said this year has been difficult for everyone in the community and especially difficult for the residents at Fairfield, their families and their staff.

“The vaccine is the glimmer of hope we have been waiting for and we look forward to being able to offer the vaccine to our staff and essential caregivers in the coming weeks,” Maxim said.

“Finally, our staff continue to receive various tokens of appreciation and support, including individually wrapped meals, cards and emails. On Valentine’s Day we received individually wrapped carnations. This kind of support from our community and our families has made all the difference to our care team as we work toward our combined goal of ending this outbreak.”

The outbreak at Fairfield remains active, public health officials say.

There remains 98 total positive cases linked to the outbreak, which was first declared on January 10, 2021.
