Fire under investigation in Chatham, $100,000 damage caused

An investigation has been launched by the Chatham-Kent Police Service, after a fire in Chatham on Saturday, February 20, 2021.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials say crews from Station #1 and Station #2 responded to a basement fire on Spark Drive just before 7 p.m.

“Crews were met by heavy smoke conditions, making a quick attack,” fire officials said on social media.

“Four children and two adults escaped without injury.”

No injuries were reported, fire officials say.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.
