83 active COVID-19 cases, new workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent

The active COVID-19 case count has increased by four and now sits at 83 across Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit has updated their ‘current situation’ page, which provides a summary of COVID-19 cases and testing in Chatham-Kent, on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

The total number of COVID-19 cases increased by 12 and sits at 1,627 across Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health officials say five people are hospitalized with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent, one more than on Wednesday.

Public health officials announced eight new recoveries, increasing the total at 1,534.

A new un-named workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent was announced on Thursday by public health officials.

Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for CK Public Health, told the Sydenham Current, the new outbreak has four total cases at the moment and the workplace is not open to the public.

CK Public Health had announced separate un-named workplace outbreaks in Chatham-Kent on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well.

A school outbreak at A.A. Wright Public School in Wallaceburg, involving five total cases, remains active.

Also, an institutional outbreak at Hudson Manor, a retirement home in Tilbury, involving two total cases, remains active.

49 of the active cases across Chatham-Kent are linked to close contact, 12 are unknown, 12 cases have information pending, six cases are linked to workplace outbreaks in Chatham-Kent, one case is linked to outbreaks outside of Chatham-Kent, two cases are linked to the institutional outbreak in Chatham-Kent and one case is linked to outbreaks in a community setting in Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health officials say a total of 57 Chatham-Kent residents have had COVID-19 with a variant of concern or related mutation.

53 of the cases had a mutation detected with “no lineage identified”, while four cases had detected the B.1.1.7 variant of concern, also known as the U.K. variant, public health officials say.

Since the pandemic began last March, a total of 10 people from Chatham-Kent have died from COVID-19.

A total of 97,076 tests for the virus have been completed to date.

Public health officials say 22,361 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered to date.

Beginning on Monday, March 22, 2021, Chatham-Kent moved into the ‘Red-Control’ tier of the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open framework.

The Province is expected to announce new measures across Ontario on Thursday afternoon.
