Teens charged following disturbance in park

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 8 p.m. last night, police responded to a disturbance at the Don Mahon Park on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that two teens were threatening a group of kids in the park with knives.

One youth was punched and kicked by the teens.

Police located the teens a short time later in possession of several knives.

Both 13-year-old Chatham youths were arrested and charged with assault, being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, five counts of assault with a weapon and five counts of uttering threats.

They were released to a parent pending a future court date of April 26, 2021.

911 all leads to arrest

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 4:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a 911 call from a man in crisis.

Officers found the man hiding in a dumpster on Bloomfield Road in Chatham.

When the officers offered assistance, the man spit towards the officers.

Upon being taken into custody, the man was searched incident to arrest and found to be in possession of suspected cocaine.

The 34-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with assault police and drug possession.

He remains in police custody this morning.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police monitored traffic around Harwich Raleigh Public School.

One motorist was stopped and charged with a school bus related offence.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, the Traffic Unit conducted enforcement on Creek Line in Dover Township.

Five tickets were issued for various Highway Traffic Act offences.

A 29-year-old man was also charged with driving while under suspension.

He will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on May 19, 2021.
