Local Wallaceburg Desjardins Agency, Kim Murray Insurance presented a cheque for $10,000 to The Black Goose on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
The funds are part of Desjardins Insurance’s GoodSpark Small Business Grants Program and will be used to help the local businesses overcome challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Desjardins officials say.
Desjardins Insurance is providing grants to 75 small businesses across the country as part of a $1-million investment, Desjardins officials say.
As part of the selection process, Desjardins Agents were invited to nominate small businesses that are important to their local communities.
“I was honoured to help select the Childs family and The Black Goose restaurant to receive a $10,000 grant,” said Desjardins Agent Kim Murray said in a press release.
“Small businesses play a vital role in the economic health and vibrancy of our local communities. Helping small businesses like The Black Goose to survive and get back on their feet will in turn help our communities recover from the pandemic.”
The 75 small businesses supported by the GoodSpark program represent a cross section of industries and include restaurants, retail outlets, cleaning firms, dance studios, dry cleaners, hair and nail salons, floral shops, and sports-related firms, among others, Desjardins officials say.
The businesses were nominated by Desjardins Insurance Agents in Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick and by Desjardins Financial Security Independent Network (DFSIN) Advisors across the country.
Desjardins Insurance is part of Desjardins Group, the largest cooperative financial group in Canada.
