Baseline Bridge work extended for one week

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say the completion date for the ongoing work on the Baseline Bridge in Wallaceburg has been extended by one week.

Municipal officials say the preparation work and asphalt paving work will now be completed by Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

Reports say the recent wet weather, along with more rain in the forecast, led to the extension.

The work had been set to be completed by May 5, 2021, but staff said in a press release last month that the original timelines were weather dependent.

Small boats will have access during construction… 2.6m x 12m opening, Municipal officials say.

Once the asphalt paving has been completed, the bridge will be closed daily for approximately 10 working days, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in order to complete balancing and commissioning of the structure prior to the bridge being opened to vehicles and pedestrians on May 14, Municipal officials say.

“During balancing and commissioning activities, the bridge will be open to vehicles and pedestrians in the evenings and weekends,” Municipal officials say.

The road closure has also been updated. Details, below:
