The Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council (CKDAC) has initiated an annual award to recognize those in our community who work diligently to reduce substance misuse and the harms associated.
Devin R.J. ‘Teddy’ Tedford died from drug overdose.
He fought a battle with substance misuse and often wanted to share his story in the event he may help others, CKDAC officials say.
Since his death, his mother Tina Tedford has taken the torch and carried on in Teddy’s spirit.
“With permission from Tina Tedford, CKDAC would like to recognize those who are continuing to work toward our organization’s goals with an award in his name,” CKDAC officials said in a media release.
The ‘Teddy Award’ will be awarded annually from the Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council – Board or Directors to recognize a business or person that supports the mission of the CKDAC.
“This recognition considers education, awareness, and advocacy work in Chatham-Kent,” CKDAC officials say.
“CKDAC received two exceptional nominations for 2021 and the board decided that we would award both with this recognition.”
The recipients are Steve Pratt for his outstanding commitment to education, awareness, and advocacy in harm reduction and addiction in Chatham-Kent.
The second award is to Gincor Trailer Werx for their outstanding commitment to Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council’s mission to work together to raise awareness and reduce harms associated with substance abuse.
These awards will be presented at the Annual General Meeting of CKDAC on May 28, 2021 virtually.
