Hot and humid conditions leads to special weather statement

A special weather statement has been issued in Chatham-Kent, as hot and humid conditions are expected on Friday, May 21, 2021.

“Maximum temperatures near 31 degrees Celsius are expected today followed by an overnight minimum temperature near 21 degrees Celsius, providing little relief from the heat,” Environment Canada officials stated.

“Slightly cooler temperatures are expected Saturday. These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat. Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.”

Environment Canada officials say people are advised to:

– Drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty

– Keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending a few hours each day in a cool place.

“Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada,” forecasters say.
