Special weather statement issued

Update: The special weather statement has ended.

A special weather statement has been issued across Chatham-Kent.

“Isolated slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy downpours are expected again this afternoon in a warm and humid tropical air mass across much of Southern Ontario,” Environment Canada officials say.

“Local rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm in an hour or less along with wind gusts to 70 km/h are expected from some of the stronger thunderstorms. Small hail is possible.”

Forecasters say sudden very low visibility and ponding of water on poorly drained areas of highways from the downpours may result in difficult driving conditions.

“The showers and thunderstorms are expected to end this evening.”

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
