Sexual assault investigation in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Wednesday night, police responded to the report of a sexual assault under the Keil Street Bridge in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that around 4:30 p.m. a 16-year-old Chatham girl was sitting under the Bridge, awaiting the arrival of a friend, when an unknown man stopped to talk to her.

The man sat down, touched the girl’s thigh and grabbed her wrist in an attempt to pull her closer to him.

The man fled as the girl’s friend arrived.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 40-years-of age, with a tall average build.

He had medium length brown hair that was slicked back and a long thick beard.

He was last seen wearing glasses, an orange shirt and cargo pants.

The Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
