Sydenham Field Naturalists holding a planting event at Crother’s Park

The Sydenham Field Naturalists are holding an evening planting at Crothers Park on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 7 p.m.

“We are looking for 10 people to help plant 1,800 various Native plugs along the waterways,” officials say.

“We will be working in pairs, one drilling a hole another dropping the plant. To maintain the COVID protocols of only 10 people, we need our volunteers to RSVP as soon as possible.”

The group can be reached through their Facebook page, here.

“If you have a cordless drill and an old 1” spade drill bit please bring it with you,” organizers say.

“It will help in the planting process. What a wonderful way to spend an evening helping nature along the peacefulness of Running Creek by bringing colour and beauty to our waterways. Something that community will be able to enjoy while walking or boating through Crothers.”

Organizers added that they purchased the plants from Golden Alexanders, Native Plant Nursery & Landscaping.

“Nick’s creativity and knowledge will help the beginner to the expert native planter find the plants needed to create their own native garden oasis,” organizers say.

“From pollinator to rain gardens and from small to large projects, Nick is able to bring your ideas to life.”

Sydenham Field Naturalists officials say this is a great opportunity for a student looking for volunteer hours to build them.

“Please send a message if you are interested and we will put you on the list,” organizers say.

Should they not complete their given task in one night, the group say they will schedule another evening planting in the near future.
