Following its Annual Meeting held on Thursday, June 24, 2021, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s (CKHA) volunteer Board of Directors elected and welcomed incoming board chair, Alan Wildeman.
Wildeman joined CKHA’s inaugural Board of Directors providing governance to both the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites in September 2018.
Wildeman assumes the role of Board Chair effective immediately and succeeds Greg Aarssen who has completed a three-year term as the inaugural Board Chair.
“I am honoured to have been selected as the next Board Chair for CKHA and look forward to working with the Board and administration to strive for the best patient care,” Wildeman said in a media release.
“The dedication of staff, physicians and volunteers at the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites is at the heart of CKHA fulfilling its mission for our region. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Greg Aarssen for his excellent work, dedication and leadership as CKHA’s inaugural Board Chair.”
Hospital officials say Wildeman was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan and has spent more than 30 years in Southwestern Ontario.
In 2018 he retired after serving 10 years as president and vice-chancellor of the University of Windsor.
Prior to that he served as vice-president of research at the University of Guelph, and enjoyed many years in academia with roles in teaching and research including a NATO Fellowship allowing him to work in Strasbourg, France.
He holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Guelph.
Wildeman has extensive experience serving on community, provincial and national advisory committees and boards, and understands the importance of public institutions to the health and well-being of communities.
He has been serving on the Board of Directors of CKHA since 2018.

“His renowned experience as an executive lead, as well as his academic pursuits and committee memberships, are well suited to the position. His leadership will ensure CKHA continues to flourish and succeed over this next phase of its journey. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, physicians and volunteers at CKHA. It has been an honour and an absolute pleasure to serve as the hospital’s inaugural Board Chair over these past three years. I would also like to thank my fellow Board members, past and present, for their tremendous work and endless support during my time as Chair.”
Following the annual meeting, CKHA appointed its officers and committee chairs as follows:
