Environment Canada issued a weather advisory in Chatham-Kent at 7:05 p.m., as conditions were favourable for the development of funnel clouds.
“Funnel clouds have been reported within showers over the area,” forecasters said.
“Funnel cloud development remains possible for the next several hours this evening.”
These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms, Environment Canada officials said.
“This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground,” forecasters added.
“However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado. Treat any funnel cloud sighting seriously. Should a funnel cloud develop nearby, prepare to take shelter. These funnel clouds usually appear with little or no warning.”
The advisory was ended at 11:58 p.m. by Environment Canada.
