Heat warning issued in Chatham-Kent

A heat warning has been issued by Environment Canada, as high heat and humidity is expected Sunday into Monday night in Chatham-Kent.

“Maximum daytime temperatures from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius are expected with humidex values near 40,” forecasters say.

“Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall to only 20 to 22 degrees, providing little relief from the heat.”

A cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms later in the day Tuesday bringing an end to the high heat, Environment Canada officials added.

“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can cause the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category,” forecasters say.

“Extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place. Seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bath, or air-conditioned spot like a public building. Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.”
