Nine Chatham-Kent officials will be participating in this year’s virtual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference being held August 16-18.
Mayor Darrin Canniff and councillors Karen Kirkwood-Whyte, Clare Latimer, Carmen McGregor and Marjorie Crew as well as Chief Administrative Officer Don Shropshire and general managers April Rietdyk, Cathy Hoffman and Gord Quinton will participate, Municipal officials say.
The conference has more than 40 sessions and presenters, speeches from Premier Doug Ford and party leaders and key ministers.
The municipality will be part of the Western Ontario Wardens Caucus, participating in meetings with cabinet ministers. Discussion will focus on regional economic development and enhancing high-speed fibre networks.
As a member of the Ontario Big City Mayors delegation, Mayor Canniff is meeting with Health Minister Christine Elliott and Associate Minister Michael Tibollo regarding methods to improve mental health and addictions services.
Mayor Canniff played a pivotal role in recommendations put forth by the Mental Health Working Group.
