Donald ‘Sandy’ Beckstead

It is with profound sadness, I announce the passing of my father Donald “Sandy” Beckstead, aka “Baggs” on Thursday October 21, 2021 at the age of 75.

He passed peacefully at his home; at his request and on his terms, following a long and hard fought battle with cancer.

Dad, by his wishes was surrounded by those he loved the most in his final hours.

He is predeceased by his Mother, Helen in 1978 and his Father, Donald in 1983.

He is survived by daughter Jenn, affectionately known as “Foo”, granddaughter Ashtyn and his partner Sheila Rolls.

Dad is also survived by daughter Tammy, grandchildren Dalton and MacKenna, brother Tom and sister-in-law Fanny, as well as his nephew Lee and niece Tanya.

Dad retired at the young age of 49 from Siemens after working for over 30 years.

Dad was an avid golfer and card player, as well as a dart enthusiast and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a master drinker.

He enjoyed sports, and NASCAR and loved his Blue Jays.

He also enjoyed bowling, curling, dancing, singing Karaoke, specifically Travellin’ Man, listening to the oldies and drives without a destination. He will be missed for his quick wit, inappropriate jokes and quirky humour.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 2-6 p.m. at the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home in Chatham, 245 Wellington Street West, Chatham.

With the Covid-19 restrictions, we are asking reservations be made for the visitation by calling the funeral home at 519-352-2710.

Masks and social distancing are required.

The family service will be held at the Alexander & Houle funeral home on Monday, October 25, 2021 with a live stream starting at 11 a.m. The live steam link will be added to the obituary once available on Monday.

Dad was not a formal guy, so those wishing to attend the showing or funeral are invited to wear a Blue Jays or NASCAR shirt.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dads name, please consider the Chatham Kent Hospice.

In closing:

We knew the day was coming

We thought we were prepared

But when that moment finally came

We were left with deep despair

Your absence is felt already

Our daily lives have changed

But one thing can’t be taken…..

The memories will remain

You’ll live in our hearts forever

We’ll think of you and say

Although you’re not here with us

We’ll meet again one day

I love you Dad, forever in my heart

Foo
