SCRCA issues flood watch

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a flood watch on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

“The recent Colorado Low which moved through our region has brought precipitation amounts between 15 mm and 45 mm, with most gauges recording around 30 mm,” SCRCA officials say.

“Water levels are elevated and continue to slowly rise as the influx of precipitation makes its way through the watershed. Many reaches of the Sydenham River have risen into surrounding floodplain, including reaches near Alvinston, Florence, Petrolia, Brigden and Bradshaw.”

The following roads are confirmed closed due to flooding:

– Waterworks Road from Moore Line to Courtright Line

– Fairweather Road between Oil Springs Line and Aberfeldy Line

The following roads may become flooded as levels continue to rise:

– Stanley Line between Kimball Road and Waubuno Road

– Pretty Road north of McCallum Line

“Residents are reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water,” SCRCA officials say.

“Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.”

This message will remain in effect until Thursday, October 28, 2021, unless otherwise updated, SCRCA officials added.
