Flood watch remains in place by the SCRCA

A flood watch remains in place by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

“Water levels across the region are receding and falling below bankfull conditions, however rainfall events over the past month have left soils saturated and more susceptible to additional precipitation and runoff,” SCRCA officials said on Thursday.

“Forecasts are calling for upwards of 30 mm of rain over the next two days, which has the potential to slow the movement of water out of the Sydenham River, contributing to elevated water levels with the potential for minor flooding into natural floodplain areas.”

Water levels in the Brigden area are beginning to plateau, however several roads remain closed due to flooding:

– Waterworks Road from Moore Line to Courtright Line

– Fairweather Road between Oil Springs Line and Aberfeldy Line

– Pretty Road from Stanley Line to McCallum Line

– Stanley Line from Kimball Road to Waubuno Road

“Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water,” SCRCA officials say.

“Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.”

This message will remain in effect until Monday, November 1, 2021, unless otherwise updated.
