Forensic evidence helps solve break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a break and enter from 2014.

On Saturday, October 25th, 2014 police responded to a break and enter at an apartment in Chatham.

The scene was examined and evidence was seized for forensic analysis.

In June of 2021, police received information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who oversees the Real Time Identification (RTID) system, that a fingerprint from the scene matched that of a former resident of Chatham.

The RCMP’s Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS) maintains the national database of criminal records in Canada.

Local police and other authorities across Canada contact CCRTIS to check the fingerprint records of people who have been charged or convicted of a crime.

Last night, a 29-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and charged with break and enter.

He was released pending a future court date of December 15, 2021.

Woman charged with driving while under suspension

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on King Street in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the woman was suspended from driving for unpaid fines.

The 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with driving while under suspension.

She will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on December 15, 2021.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on St. Clair Street near Oxley Drive in Chatham.

Two people were transported to hospital as a precaution.

Total damage was estimated at $8,000.

A 34-year-old Chatham woman was charged with careless driving.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Richmond Street between Keil Drive and Bothwell Street in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $10,000.

A 20-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making an unsafe lane change.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Ridge Line.

Through investigation, police learned that the man rear-ended another vehicle and failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

Officers located the 35-year-old Ridgetown man a short time later and he was charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences.
