Police: Snapchat threats, RIDE checks, tools stolen

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, officers conducted a RIDE spot check in Bothwell and Kent Bridge.

A total of 95 vehicles were stopped and checked:

– 3 roadside breath tests were administered

– 1 – 3 day license suspension was issued

– 1 driver was charged with having open alcohol in the vehicle

– 1 driver was charged with being a G1 driver with no qualified driver present

As road safety is a priority for our Police Service, we would like to remind everyone that RIDE spot checks will continue throughout our community in an effort to keep all road users safe.

Youth charged with uttering threats

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police were notified of a threatening message on Snapchat referencing John McGregor Secondary School.

Through investigation, the youth responsible was identified.

The 15-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and charged with uttering threats.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with being intoxicated in a public place

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, police located a man on Grand Avenue in Chatham who was unable to care for himself.

For his own safety, the man was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

The 35-year-old Tilbury man was charged and released this morning when sober.

Theft of tools in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. and Wednesday at 6:15 a.m. unknown suspects entered a residence under construction on Wellington Street East, causing about $1,500 damage.

Once inside, the suspects stole various tools valued at $1,500.
