Winter weather travel advisory in effect

Environment Canada officials say a winter weather travel advisory is in effect across Chatham-Kent.

“A band of snow is forecast to move across the area late this afternoon into this evening,” forecasters say.

“This will be the first snowfall of the season for the area and will likely impact road conditions. Motorists are advised to exercise caution as untreated roads may become icy and slippery.”

Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 cm can be expected by the time the snow tapers off tonight, forecasters say.

“Additional snow is likely Sunday afternoon into Sunday night when another 2 to 4 cm of accumulation can be expected,” Environment Canada officials added.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.”
