CKHA welcomes four new physicians

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has announced the addition of new physicians who began practicing at the organization in the late summer and early fall.

Dr. Abdelnasir Bashir joins the department of Critical Care, Dr. Andrew Yuen joins as a General Surgeon, Dr. Dele Oyebode joins the department of Psychiatry and Dr. William Hodge joins as an Opthamologist.

“I am so pleased Doctors Bashir, Yuen, Oyebode and Hodge have chosen to join CKHA and practice in the community of Chatham-Kent,” said Dr. Pervez Faruqi, Chief of Staff, CKHA, in a media release.

“Their passion for their professions and talents will make a positive impact on our provision of quality, Patient and Family Centred Care.”

Dr. Abdelnasir Bashir began his medical education at the University of Gezira in Sudan. He immigrated to Canada and continued his medical education through the Internal Medicine residency and fellowship at McMaster University. After completing his fellowship, he was accepted into the University of Western’s Critical Care fellowship and graduated in 2013. Throughout his career, Dr. Bashir has worked in community hospitals throughout Ontario prior to joining CKHA. Dr. Bashir also serves as a member of the Department of Critical Care at Swaidi Hospital in Saudi Arabia in his off time.

Dr. Bashir is interested in education and is excited to work with medical students and residents at CKHA. Dr. Bashir is also passionate about educating the public on issues related to Critical Care. He has been a frequent guest on Saudi TV, providing expert opinions and advice to viewers. He is also an advocate for children experiencing homelessness in Sudan. In his spare time, he greatly enjoys gardening and spending time outdoors.

A native of southern Ontario, Dr. Andrew Yuen completed his Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences at McMaster University and his Doctor of Medicine and General Surgery residency at the University of Toronto. After practicing for two years as a General Surgeon at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, he earned his fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Yuen and his young family have recently relocated to Chatham and look forward to settling into the community. Dr. Yuen is now accepting patient referrals and is located at 146 Queen St. in Chatham. His office can be reached by calling 519.397.1146.

As a staff psychiatrist, Dr. Dele Oyebode will also assume the role of Chief of Psychiatry and Program Medical Director of the Mental Health and Addictions Program at CKHA. Dr. Oyebode earned his MRCPsych (Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists) from the University College Dublin, Ireland in 2006. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2010.

Dr. Oyebode comes to CKHA with a breadth of experience in medical leadership as he has previously held the roles of Chief Psychiatrist and Maternal Mental Health Program Director at Weyburn Saskatchewan Health Authority. Dr. Oyebode has a strong passion for education, which is shown in his own continued learning but also in his desire for teaching medical students and postgraduate trainees. After spending the last couple of years travelling for work throughout Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan and the North West Territories, Dr. Oyebode looks forward to settling down with his family in Chatham-Kent.

Born in Quebec, Dr. William Hodge completed both his Doctor of Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at McGill University. After completing a Master of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, he returned to McGill University to obtain his Doctor in Philosophy in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Hodge is deeply committed to his role as Professor at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University, where he has also sat on numerous committees. Dr. Hodge is now accepting patient referrals and is located at the Anjema Eye Institute, 735 St. Clair Street in Chatham. His office can be reached by calling 519.380.0008.
