Strong winds expected, special weather statement remains in place

A special weather statement remains in place in Chatham-Kent, as strong winds are set to continue through this evening.

Hazards include strong wind with gusts of 70 to 80 km/h through this evening, Environment Canada officials say.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees. Power outages are possible,” forecasters say.

“The wind will strengthen once again this afternoon behind a passing cold front. Gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected this afternoon.”
