No change in leadership for local school board trustees

There will be no change in the leadership of the Board of Trustees for St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

At Tuesday evening’s Initial Board meeting, John Van Heck was acclaimed to the position of Chair of the Board and Mat Roop was acclaimed Vice Chair.

Van Heck, who was first elected to the Board in 2006, has held the position of Chair since the 2016 term; Roop has been Vice Chair since 2019 and has been a Catholic Trustee since 2014.

In accepting their positions, both Van Heck and Roop expressed their appreciation to their fellow Trustees for their continued support.

They also thanked the Board’s senior administration and all staff across the system for their tremendous work in support of the Catholic students and families in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.

ÈGod holds us in His hands and has gifted us with an exceptionally faith-filled and talented senior leadership team,È stated Van Heck, in a media release.

“Please extend to our staff across the district our appreciation for all that they do to support our students and families.”

“Thank you to my colleagues for the privilege of serving as the Vice Chair of the Board for another term,” stated Roop, in a press release.

“I want to assure you that I will be here to serve all of you in any way possible, in support of our students and our vision of Catholic Education – Future Ready.”

Elections for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair are held annually at the Board’s December meeting.

The term of office for both positions expires in November 2022.

Trustees for the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) re-elected Randy Campbell as Chair and Derek Robertson as Vice-Chair of the Board during the Annual Organization Board Meeting held on December 7, 2021.

Campbell has served as a school board trustee since 2006 and was elected as Board Chair in 2020-2021.

He previously was named Vice-Chair in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, after serving on various Board committees.

Robertson was elected to the LKDSB in 2018 and was elected Vice-Chair of the Board in 2020-2021.

He has served on the Audit Committee, Negotiations Committee and Special Education Advisory Committee.

Campbell expressed appreciation for the efforts of LKDSB administration and system leaders, as well as educators, education workers and student transportation in supporting students and the safe operation of schools.

He also thanked parents/guardians, local health officials and students for working together to support a continuity of learning when faced with a changing landscape during the past year.

“I appreciate the support of the Board and I look forward to continuing to lead the Board of Trustees as Chair,” said Campbell, in a press release.

“As we continue to be challenged by the pandemic, we will ensure that the best interests of students, staff and parents/guardians are at the forefront of our decision-making.”

“I am pleased to be re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Board,” said Vice-Chair Robertson, in a media release.

“I look forward to continuing the work of supporting the Board’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Priorities, as well as collectively making the best decisions for the Board’s current and future needs through effective governance that prioritizes student achievement and well-being.”

“Congratulations to Chair Randy Campbell and Vice-Chair Derek Robertson as they continue their leadership of the Board of Trustees,” said John Howitt, Director of Education, in a media release.

“Under the direction of the Board, we will continue to focus on supporting the safe operation of schools and ensuring that all students reach their full academic potential.”
