Postma coat drive deemed a ‘major success’

A coat drive in Chatham is being called a “major success.”

“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” stated Caleb Postma, the owner of Postma Heating and Cooling.

“The community has come together and far exceeded our expectations in our first ever coat drive to support the Operation Cover-up program.”

Allie Mathews, from The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries, said they would like to thank the
teamwork of both Postma Heating and Cooling and the community for their tremendous support.

“We will be able to get these coats into the hands of those who need it most this winter season, thanks to
Postma and the community’s generous support,” she said in a media release.

“This coat drive has proven how well Chatham-Kent comes together in a time of need. Thank you again very much to Postma for taking on this initiative. As always, we encourage those in need to reach out to us by visiting or contacting any of our family services locations.”

Postma said they thought in advance if they could raise a couple of hundred coats, it would be a success.

“We ended up just shy of a thousand,” he said.

“986 coats were brought in. We are blown away by this community once again, thank you Chatham-Kent.”

Postma added: “We also had our staff jump in to support, our installers all offered to donate their time in installing the prize, the new furnace.”

The prize, a new furnace installed, went to someone who was in need as well, which makes this all that much better, Postma said.

The winner was drawn on video, the video can be seen on the Postma Heating and Cooling website.
