Update: $1.5-million damage caused after a blaze at the former Bedell’s frozen food warehouse

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services officials have released more details following a fire in Dover Centre on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.

“Station #4 – Dover, assisted by Station #5 – Tupperville, Station #6 – Dresden, and Unit 1-13 attended 8323 Dover Centre Line, formerly the Bedell’s frozen food warehouse, for a reported structure fire just after 8 a.m. yesterday,” fire officials said in a media release.

“The building had been converted to migrant housing and office space. When the first crew arrived on scene, heavy smoke was showing from the front half of the building. Crews worked defensively to extinguish the fire and an excavator was called in to knock down the back half of the building that was attached to a larger warehouse.”

Fire officials say EMS and Chatham-Kent Police Service were also on scene for the duration.

The Office of the Fire Marshall was notified and damages are estimated at $1.5-million.

Fire officials say the cause is undetermined and there were no injuries.
