Former Wallaceburg Red Devil captures Brock University young alumni award

A former Wallaceburg Red Devil is the 2021 recipient of Brock University’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

After graduating from the St. Catharines university in 2019, Brennor Jacobs, 30-years-old of the Oneida Turtle Clan, had the idea to create a small resource booklet on lacrosse.

As he researched the game and interviewed players, the original concept for a 50-page resource guide evolved into a book.

Working with his cousin Brendan Bomberry, a professional lacrosse player, the pair interviewed nearly 70 former and current lacrosse players, along with Indigenous elders.

The result was a 437-page book entitled Akhwatsirehko:wa My Big Family, which explores how lacrosse has impacted people emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.

Jacobs played goalie in Junior ‘B’ lacrosse with the Red Devils back in 2012, notching a 3-1 regular season record and 7-5 record in the playoffs that season.
