‘Betty White Challenge’ nets $6,600 in donations for PAWR

The Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) in Chatham-Kent received thousands of dollars in donations on Monday, January 17, 2022 in honour of late actor and animal rights activist, Betty White.

As part of the social media movement #BettyWhiteChallenge, animal shelters and rescues across Canada had donations pour in on Monday, which would’ve marked the former ‘Golden Girls’ 100th birthday.

White died on December 31, 2021 at the age of 99.

“Would Betty have ever imagined that her legacy would be so vast and powerful?” PAWR officials posted on social media.

“The Betty White Challenge asked people to donate $5 to a an animal shelter, rescue or sanctuary in her memory the day of what would have been her 100th birthday and what an incredible response. Our shelter alone received $6,600 in donations yesterday. We have reached out to other rescues and shelters and their donations went through the roof as well.”

PAWR officials said Chatham Honda stepped up to join the challenge and donated $500.

“Betty definitely has a lot of friends,” PAWR officials added.

“Thank you to all of you, you made her proud and your helped animals in need.”
