Police: Impaired driving, shoplifting, tools stolen from RONA in Wallaceburg

Shoplifting leads to arrest

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman concealed approximately $475 worth of items in a bag and left the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Officers located the woman a short distance away and she was taken into custody.

The stolen items were recovered and returned to the store.

The 37-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On November 10, 2021 a woman was released from Court with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that she was to remain in her residence at all times, except for medical emergencies or when in the presence of her surety.

Last night, police initiated a traffic stop on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

The woman was located in the vehicle with neither surety present.

The 37-year-old Croton woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Theft of tools in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime early yesterday morning, unknown suspects forced their way into the RONA Cashway Building Centre on Murray Street, causing about $1,000 damage.

Once inside, the suspects stole approximately $900 worth of various DeWalt tools.

Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night around 10 p.m. police responded to an alarm at the Liquidation Zone on St. Clair Street.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that unknown suspects had forced their way into the business, causing about $5,000 damage.

Once inside, the suspects stole $500 worth of silver jewelry.

Impaired driver

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a Motor Vehicle Collision on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police determined the driver to be impaired and subsequently placed the man under arrest.

A 31-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with Operation While Impaired and 80 Plus and given a future court date of March 23, 2022.
