58th COVID-19 death reported in Chatham-Kent

Another COVID-19 death has been reported in Chatham-Kent.

Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for CK Public Health, says the most recent death was a man in his 90’s.

A total of 58 Chatham-Kent residents have died from the virus since the pandemic began in March of 2020.

CK Public Health officials say 29 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday, increasing the total number of cases to 7,016 since the pandemic began.

A total of five people are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, public health officials added.

The current seven day rolling average case count (average number per day) sits at 15.

Public health officials say three outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s Medicine Unit in Chatham, declared on March 1, 2022, involves eight cases.

– An outbreak at the Wallaceburg Retirement Residence, declared on February 25, 2022, involves 26 cases.

– An outbreak at Maple City Retirement Residence in Chatham, declared on February 23, 2022, involves 16 cases.

A total of 215,197 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 85,107 people 5+ have received at least one dose, 81,801 people 5+ have received two doses and 49,489 people 5+ have received three doses.
