True reward follows struggle

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

It has been said that the greatest rewards in life come only after great struggle.

Nobody knows that better than the late Wilma Rudolph, who once said, “Believe me, the reward is not so great without the struggle.”

At the age of four she contracted infantile paralysis, which was caused by the polio virus.

Although she recovered she still had to wear a brace on her left leg and foot until the age of nine.

The brace also caused her foot to be twisted.

Her family had to travel out of town for her to receive treatments on her twisted leg.

Up until the age of 12 she also suffered bouts of polio and scarlet fever.

Yet with all that, this woman persevered in her quest to be a great athlete.

Her struggles paid off with Wilma Rudolph becoming the first woman to win 3 gold medals in one Olympiad, in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

She went from being a child who could barely walk to a woman who couldn’t be beaten and was hailed as the fastest woman in the world.

Her rewards were rich because they came after great struggle.

The rich, priceless reward of eternal life also came after a great struggle.

Jesus of Nazareth, the Saviour of the world, suffered one of the most painful and humiliating deaths of that era, yet he rose again to grant eternal life to all that will call upon His name.
