CKHA’s Board Chair receives honorary degree from the University of Saskatchewan

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s (CKHA) Board Chair, Alan Wildeman, has been chosen as one of six individuals to receive an honorary degree from the University of Saskatchewan (USask).

This annual recognition pays tribute to the extraordinary contributions of USask alumni throughout their careers, hospital officials say.

“I am truly honoured to receive this recognition,” Wildeman said, in a media release.

“So many of the wonderful opportunities I have had throughout my life can be traced back to what the USask faculty and staff did to help me learn more about myself and more about the world. I am forever grateful for my Saskatchewan upbringing and for the education I received at the University of Saskatchewan.”

“On behalf of CKHA, we send our sincere congratulations to Mr. Wildeman for this achievement,” said Lori Marshall, President and CEO of CKHA, in a media release.

“This speaks volumes to the caliber of board members we continue to recruit. In his role as Board Chair, Mr. Wildeman’s renowned experience continues to provide us steadfast guidance in the provision of safe, high quality care.”

Wildeman was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan and has spent more than 30 years in Southwestern Ontario.

In 2018, he retired after serving ten years as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Windsor.

Prior to that, he served as Vice-President of Research at the University of Guelph, and enjoyed many years in academia with roles in teaching and research including a NATO Fellowship allowing him to work in Strasbourg, France.

He holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Guelph.

Wildeman has extensive experience serving on community, provincial and national advisory committees and boards.

He has been serving on the Board of Directors of CKHA since 2018, moving into the role of Board Chair in 2021.

Wildeman will receive his honorary degree (Honorary Doctor of Laws) during this year’s USask Spring Convocation celebrations scheduled to be held at Merlis Belsher Place at USask in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from June 6-10, 2022.
