$100,000 damage caused after a fire in Chatham

An estimated $100,000 in damages was caused after a fire in Chatham.

“Fire crews were dispatched to 191 King Street East, Chatham for reports of a house fire just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday,” fire officials said in a media release.

“The three people who were in the home at the time of the fire were able to escape and meet firefighters outside. When firefighters arrived they advanced hose lines to the side door of the home where flames were seen coming from the door way. Fire crews were able to enter the home and quickly knock down the fire. No injuries were reported.”

The cause of the blaze is undetermined.

“Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services offers free CHiRP Home Safety Checks,” fire officials said.

Fire officials added: “Protect your family from fire and carbon monoxide by having working smoke alarms on every level of your home and working CO alarms outside all sleeping areas (if your home has any fuel burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage).”
