“Funnel cloud spotted in Dover Centre about thirty minutes ago. Didn’t touch the ground and disappeared after a few minutes,” she tweeted.

A severe thunderstorm warning from Environment Canada was issued across Chatham-Kent at 2:52 p.m. The warning ended at 4:05 p.m.

Instant Weather Ontario, an independent group of weather enthusiasts, stated at 3:54 p.m. they had several funnel cloud reports in deep southwestern Ontario.

“Recently near Petrolia and within the past hour near Mitchells Bay, Pain Court (near Chatham),” the group posted on social media.

“It’s typically rare for these type of funnels to touch down but if they do, they can be briefly severe as a landspout tornado.”

Environment Canada’s forecast for tonight is partly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers early this evening with risk of a thunderstorm.

A heat warning also remains in effect for the weekend. Details, here.
