Wallaceburg Councillors ‘humbled’ by acclamation, optimistic for the future

Wallaceburg Councillors Carmen McGregor and Aaron Hall learned on Friday, August 19, 2022 that they would remain in their roles for another four-year term of Council.

As the nomination period for the 2022 Chatham-Kent Municipal Election closed, McGregor and Hall were the only candidates to file their papers for Ward 5 – Wallaceburg, which will lead to them being acclaimed for their positions.

Both Councillors took to social media to express their gratitude.

“Thank you Wallaceburg and all that were willing to work with me on a campaign this year,” McGregor said.

“I feel honoured and at the same time humbled by the support for Aaron Hall and I to lead our community throughout the next municipal term of Council.”

Hall added: “Thank-you for your trust, your confidence and your support. It was an honour to be elected as one of your Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council Ward 5 representatives in 2018 and I’m equally thrilled to be acclaimed for the position for another four-year term. It’s truly an honour to serve and represent all of you, it’s something I take very seriously and take to heart. I’m grateful for the opportunity to carry on with this work.”

Both McGregor and Hall said they are focused on the positives moving forward.

“There are many positive changes lined up for Wallaceburg and I look forward to bringing the voice of our community to ensure that we proceed with projects that represent the majority while helping our community prosper,” McGregor said.

“It has been a great pleasure to work with Cl Aaron Hall as our mutual agenda has always been, and will always be about our community.”

Hall added: “I’m excited to continue striving toward moving our community forward in a positive direction, creating unity, building impactful relationships and ensuring Wallaceburg’s and Chatham-Kent’s full potential is realized.”

Hall and McGregor both said they intend to resume their ‘coffee shop chats’ in the near future as well.

“We hope that you either join us or reach out to us when you have concerns or suggestions,” McGregor said.

Hall also confirmed he plans to launch a community engagement initiative in the coming weeks, called ‘Project Onward and Upward’.

“The insight, input and perspective that I gathered from the community during the last election, with Project 627, was incredibly valuable,” he said.

“It allowed me to understand the needs of the community more clearly and provided me with vital knowledge as I began my new role. However, taking the time for a ‘check-in’ so to speak, or a re-evaluation, will be key as we enter into the 2022-2026 term of Council.”

McGregor was first elected to Council in 2014 and will be starting her third consecutive term representing Ward 5 – Wallaceburg.

Hall was first elected in 2018 and will be starting his second consecutive term.
