Cocaine and fentanyl seized in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Officers from the Sarnia Police Service Vice Unit entered into an investigation regarding the trafficking of cocaine and fentanyl within the City of Sarnia over the course of August.

On August 24, 2022, shortly after 3 p.m., officers from the Vice Unit were conducting surveillance on the accused.

As a result of the surveillance officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Indian Road and Wellington Street.

There were two occupants in the vehicle and both were taken into custody without incident.

A search of the vehicle and the two accused located the following:

1) Cocaine, 92.16 grams with an estimated street value of $9216.00

2) Fentanyl, 32.57 grams with an estimated street value of $4885.00

3) $3630 in Canadian currency

A 34-year-old Sarnia man faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as being wanted on an outstanding warrant for previous matters before the courts.

The second accused is a a 35-year-old Sarnia woman, who also faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Both have been held for a bail hearing.

Of concern is that the cocaine and fentanyl, even though in individual bags, were kept together along with the fact that only one scale was located to measure the drugs.

The end result is that an individual that believes they are only using cocaine ingest a sample that is contaminated with fentanyl, even in the smallest amount, but due to their lack tolerance toward the fentanyl end up in respiratory distress and possibly dead.
