Applications open for ‘Not Just A Handyman’ program

Applications are open again for the Prosperity Roundtable’s training and employment project, Not Just A Handyman.

Designed to support young people looking to explore the trades, this project has helped young people build their confidence in using different tools safely, get exposed to different trade opportunities, and become prepared to start their journey in the trades.

Following the success of the summer trainings, applications are now open for the Fall.

The project runs Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There are limited spots for September 12 to September 29 and October 17 to November 3.

Applications close at the end of August.

This three-week training pays youth to learn foundational skills.

After the three weeks, trainees will have tons of opportunities to participate in networking events, workshops that grow their skills, and supports to continue education in the trades.

The project aims to help 75 people train for good jobs.

It is receiving $215,310 funding from Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

“Across southwestern Ontario, there are thousands of jobs in the skilled trades waiting to be filled,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister for Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, in a media release.

“If you’re a young person who enjoys working with your hands, this program will give you the skills you need to start a meaningful life-long career and earn a bigger paycheque.”
