Tornado confirmed near Mooretown

A ground survey investigation by the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) of the University of Western Ontario has resulted in the confirmation of an EF0 tornado at Payne, Ontario, located just outside of Mooretown in Lambton County, from storms on Aug 29, 2022.

“Damage to barns and trees in the Payne area was reported after a storm passed through,” NTP officials said in a news release.

“No injuries were reported. An NTP ground/drone survey was completed on September 1, 2022, where surveyors also found a narrow swath of crop damage along the track of reported structural and tree damage.”

NTP officials say damage assessed as an EF0 tornado, with an estimated maximum wind speed of 125 km/h, track length of 4.58 km and maximum path width of 250 metres.

The tornado motion was from the west at approximately 270 degrees.

The start time was approximately 6:50 p.m.

Satellite imagery review is pending, NTP officials added.
