Wallaceburg’s Tyler Davis selected by the New York Riptide in the NLL draft

Wallaceburg’s Tyler Davis was selected this past weekend in the annual National Lacrosse League draft.

The New York Riptide selected the 20-year-old defenseman in the second round with the 42nd overall pick.

“The Captain of Team Canada IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship, Davis had 28 points on seven goals and 21 assists in four games played, including nine points in the gold medal game,” Riptide officials said in a media release.

“We addressed our immediate needs of improving our defense, which was a priority for us and added depth in our lefty offense position,” Riptide general Manager Jim Veltman said, in a press release.

“We also drafted some pure lacrosse talent that has the potential to turn into something amazing. Overall we feel we had a very successful draft.”

Riptide Head Coach Dan Ladouceur added: “Excited about the balance we struck in this draft. We had a plan to address needs we have immediately while positioning ourselves for growth in the future. We are excited to see all our picks compete in the near future.”

Davis played parts of three seasons with the Wallaceburg Red Devils Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse Club, tallying 75 points in 28 games from 2017 to 2019.
