OPP: Second degree murder charge laid in Leamington

Essex OPP officials allege: Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Essex detachment have charged one person with second-degree murder following an incident in Leamington on September 29, 2022.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., the OPP responded to a 911 call on Mill Street East in Leamington, where officers located a deceased woman.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending a next-of-kin notification.

A 38-year-old resident of Leamington has been charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was held in custody for a scheduled court appearance on September 30, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.

The Essex OPP Crime Unit is investigating the incident with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The OPP want to assure the public that there is no concern for public safety, but there will be an increased police presence in the area during this investigation.
