‘One card, one million possibilities’ during Ontario Public Library Week

Ontario Public Library Week is being recognized this week, October 17 to October 22, 2022.

“Check out all that’s available during Ontario Public Library Week (OPLW) when Chatham-Kent Public Library will be celebrating one card, one million possibilities,” library officials said in a media release.

“Your library card provides you with access to a diverse collection of physical materials such as books, magazines, movies, as well as digital resources such as ebooks, music and eaudiobooks. Check out CKPL’s newest digital resource, PressReader, which gives you access to thousands of newspapers from around the world.”

Library officials say this month, CKPL officially launched a new online catalogue that makes it easier for patrons to discover their next favourite book by simplifying the search process.

“Now, all the different formats (ebook, audiobook, large print, book on CD, regular print, playaway) of a title are available and will roll up together as a single search result, simplifying the process of discovering a new great read,” library officials say.

“Library cards are free to all residents of Chatham-Kent. Drop into any of the 11 library locations across Chatham-Kent between October 17 – 22 and see what special activities, crafts and displays are on offer. The highlight will be the Tiny Art Festival — an exhibition created by Chatham-Kent Community members.”

In celebration of OPLW, Ontario Library Services is coordinating ‘Together We Read: Ontario’ a digital book club program.

This year’s title will be “Still Hopeful” by Maude Barlow.

From October 17 – 20 “Still Hopeful” will be available from Libby with no waitlists and no holds.

“Make Ontario Public Library Week the week you choose to rediscover all that your local library branch has to offer you,” library officials added.

“Don’t have a library card, can’t make it into a branch and want to check out CKPL’s virtual collection? Sign up online at www.ckpl.ca/virtualcards for your free virtual library card.”
