Halloween isn’t dead.
So if you’re looking for a frightfully good time on October 31, you may want to slink your way down to Nelson Street in Wallaceburg.
“This year will mark the first annual Nightmare on Nelson Street,” said resident Josh Thompson.
“A group of us are hoping to put on a great neighbourhood display for children and adults alike.”
Thompson, along with his neighbours in the 300-340 block of Nelson Street, have been working for the past month to create some ghoulish displays.
Crystal Spencer, who’s home includes a 12-foot-tall talking witch and moaning zombie, said she and her husband, Clarence, have always had a love for the holiday.
“I love Halloween,” the mother of four said.
“And I have a wicked friend who likes it as much as I do.”
Spencer is referring to Thompson and his wife, who had longed to create a neighbourhood-wide Halloween event ever since Kristen’s time working at the Wallaceburg and District Museum.
“Wallaceburg has a rich history when it comes to haunted folklore,” said Thompson, referring to the Baldoon Mystery, written by Neil T. MacDonald almost 200 years ago.
“Why not pay homage to our history?”
Stacia Yarc, said she has a new-found love for the holiday since moving into the neighbourhood a couple years ago.
“Kristen really brought back the Halloween spirit for both of us (she and her husband),” said Yarc.
“She’s always bringing the community together.”
Nightmare on Nelson Street is set up as a walk-through, haunted-house style trick-or-treating event.
Some of the displays have flashing or strobing lights, loud sounds and moving animatronics.
