OPP: Speeding, stunt driving, fail to move for an emergency vehicle

OPP officials allege: On October 31, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment was with a broken-down vehicle and a tow operator on Eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Both the cruiser and tow-truck had the emergency lights fully activated.

A SUV failed to change lanes to occupy the vacant lane and passed in the lane nearest to the emergency vehicles at highway speeds.

The driver, a 29-years-old from Kitchener, Ontario was charged with Fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle or tow truck – if safe to do so contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.


OPP officials allege: On November 1, 2022, at approximately 12:14 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a grey SUV for speeding, travelling 147kmh in a 100km/h zone on the Westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The driver of the vehicle failed to surrender a driver’s licence but was determined to be an Ontario G1 Licence holder.

The driver, 28-years-old from Leamington, Ontario was charged with the following contrary to the Highway Traffic Act:

– Speeding 1-49Km/h over posted limit

– Driver fail to surrender licence

– Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

– Class G1 licence holder – carry front-seat passenger

– Class G1 licence holder – drive on prohibited highway

– Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour


OPP officials allege: On November 1, 2022, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle, with four occupants, at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program conducted at the intersection of Highway 40 and Creek Road, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The investigation led to the discovery of a container of open alcohol within the vehicle and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized.

The driver, 21-years-old from Chatham, Ontario was charged with the following contrary to the Highway Traffic Act:

– Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

– Young driver – B.A.C. above zero

Further, a passenger, 20-years-old from Chatham, Ontario was charged with Having liquor in open container in unauthorized place contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act.


OPP officials allege: On November 1, 2022, at approximately 3:14 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a commercial motor vehicle for speeding on Eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

After further investigation, the driver, 33-years-old from Scarborough, Ontario was charged with the following contrary to the Highway Traffic Act:

– Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted limit

– Drive commercial motor vehicle not equipped with working speed-limiting system

– Fail to maintain daily log

– Fail to complete daily inspection report forthwith after inspection

– Fail to surrender inspection schedule

– Permit operation of commercial motor vehicle not equipped with working speed-limiting system


OPP officials allege: On November 1, 2022, at approximately 7:14 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on 40 Highway, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding 137 Km/h in a posted 80 Km/h zone.

The driver, 22-years-old of Chatham, Ontario was charged with Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – Excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.


OPP officials allege: On November 5, 2022, at approximately 1:25 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on Westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding 165 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h zone.

The driver, 24-years-old of London, Ontario was charged with Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – Excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.


OPP officials allege: On November 6, 2022, at approximately 4:07 p.m., officers with the Elgin County OPP attended a section Lakeshore Line, Municipality of Bayham that has been closed to the public.

A large gathering of vehicles was located beyond the Road Closure sign.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were charged with Drive on a closed highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act:

– Two Individuals, 19-years-old of Aylmer, Ontario

– An 18-years-old of Florence, Ontario

– A 17-years-old of Langton, Ontario

– A 19-years-old of Port Burwell, Ontario

– A 17-years-old of Straffordville, Ontario

– A 19-years-old of Tillsonburg, Ontario

– A 20-years-old of Tillsonburg, Ontario

– An 18-years-old of Vienna, Ontario

– A 20-years-old of Vienna, Ontario

– A 17-years-old of Wallaceburg, Ontario
