Update: Power outage leads to water outage in Wallaceburg

Update at 3:07 p.m. – From the Lambton-Kent District School Board: Water services have been restored to all Lambton Kent District School Board schools in Wallaceburg; however, Chatham-Kent Public Health advises a boil water advisory has been issued until further notice.

A. A. Wright Public School, H.W. Burgess Public School and Wallaceburg District Secondary School will be open to students on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Due to the boil water advisory, all drinking fountains and water bottle filling stations have been closed and bagged off. Drinking water in the schools will not be available for the duration of the advisory and signage will be displayed throughout the school. Washrooms are fully operational.

Students are encouraged to bring bottled water to school, if possible.

Bottled water will be supplied to students and staff at the school as needed.


Update at 2:44 p.m. – From the S. Clair Catholic District School Board: “Water services have been restored to all St. Clair Catholic schools in Wallaceburg; however, Chatham-Kent Public Health advises a boil water advisory has been issued until further notice.

Holy Family, Christ The King and St. Elizabeth Catholic schools will be open to all students and staff on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Due to the boil water advisory, all drinking fountains and water bottle filling stations have been closed and bagged off. Drinking water in the schools will not be available for the duration of the advisory.

Bottled water will be supplied to all students and staff at the school.

Washrooms are once again fully operational.


Update at 2:18 p.m. – From the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association: “Despite the local power outage today and the impact to the water system the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena is open and our programming continues on as usual.

There is no drinking water available at the arena – Please be sure to bring water from home.”

Update at 12:49 p.m. – From the Municipality of Chatham-Kent: Tiny Tots skating at 1 p.m. in Wallaceburg is cancelled due to the watermain break. Sorry for the inconvenience.


Update at 12:43 p.m. – The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit has issued a Boil Water Advisory across Wallaceburg. Details, here.

Also, from the PUC: “The Public Health Unit has issues a Boil Water Advisory for all customers on the Wallaceburg Water Distribution System. This advisory measure is in place until the Health Unit receives good results from two consecutive sets of samples taken a minimum of 24 hours apart. Crews have isolated the section of watermain that the break had occurred and parts of the Wallaceburg water system are returning to normal pressures. PUC is working closely with the PHU on this BWA.”


Update at 12:14 p.m. – From the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance: CKHA’s Wallaceburg Site has no water due to the water main break the town is experiencing. We are making every effort to ensure patients are safe. We will update the public through our social media channels as we receive more information. Thank you for your patience.


Update at 11:50 a.m. – From the PUC: “There was a power outage this morning in the Wallaceburg/Dresden area that has caused a watermain break on Baseline Rd. Crews are on scene with the watermain break and will start repairs as soon as possible. PUC is aware of the water disruption and we are communicating with Public Health and will follow their direction for corrective actions.”


Update at 11:37 a.m. – From A.A. Wright Public School: **SCHOOL CLOSING** Due to the fact that we do not have water in the school building, the board has made the decision to close the school for student safety. Update at 11:33 a.m. – From the Lambton-Kent District School Board: Students at Wallaceburg District Secondary School have been dismissed early on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 due to a local water line issue in the Wallaceburg area. Based on the estimated time of restoration and no access to water at the school, Lambton Kent District School Board has decided to close the school to students for the day on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Student transportation will be provided for Wallaceburg District Secondary School students (including Grade 7/8 students) earlier than dismissal time to ensure that students are safely transported home.

It is expected that Wallaceburg District Secondary School will be open to students on Thursday, November 10.

Update at 11:32 a.m. – From the St. Clair Catholic Dsitrict School Board: Due to a water outage in Wallaceburg, parents/guardians of students at Holy Family, Christ The King and St. Elizabeth Catholic schools are encouraged to pick up children at the earliest opportunity.

Students who remain at school will be dismissed at the usual time; and bus students will be transported home as usual at the end of the day.

Municipal authorities are not yet able to determine what time the water will be restored.

In the meantime, students are well and safe at school. Facility Services has provided bottled water to all students and staff and hand sanitizer has been deployed throughout the building; however, there is no ability to flush washroom toilets.

Further updates will be provided to parents/guardians as information becomes available.


Update at 11:30 a.m. – From Entegrus:


Update at 11:24 a.m. – From Wallaceburg District Secondary School officials: “Due to a wide-spread municipal water outage, LKDSB is closing WDSS effective immediately. Buses are arriving at 11:30 to bring bus students home. If your child walks, please make arrangements to have your child picked up immediately from the school. Please call the school to let us know if your child is going to be walking home rather than being picked up. If you can text your child your permission, teachers will be checking messages from parents to their child. Walpole Island Bus students – busing has been contacted, we are waiting on available drivers. Students will be able to take buses to Walpole as they arrive.”


Original story: A power outage and subsequent watermain break is impacting parts of Wallaceburg on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

Entegrus officials say the issue was on the Hydro One side and crews were on route.

As of 10:48 a.m., Entegrus officials said the issue was resolved, however 82 customers in Wallaceburg were said to be without power and 24 customers in Dresden were without power as well.

Entegrus officials said the outage was due to loss of supply.

The outage also created some issues with water supply in Wallaceburg.
