Fire in Wheatley causes $175,000 damage

Firefighters responded to a structure fire in Wheatley early Friday morning, November 18, 2022.

“Firefighters from Station #20 were dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 40 Elm Street in Wheatley,” fire officials say.

“Upon arrival smoke and flames were visible from the rear of the structure. A request was put in to have assistance from Station #19 in Tilbury. The fire was brought under control quickly and firefighters remained on scene to preform salvage and overhaul operations. Working smoke alarms alerted the resident which allowed them to exit the home safely. There were no injuries reported.”

Damage is pegged at $175,000, while $175,000 in property was saved.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
