‘Light-Up Chatham-Kent’ initiative launched for the holidays

Chatham-Kent residents are known for their holiday cheer, and one of the best ways to spread that cheer is by decorating your home with Christmas lights.

“But why stop there?” Municipal officials said, in a media release.

“This year let’s light up Chatham-Kent!”

Municipal officials say they are challenging residents to get creative and show off their holiday spirit by decorating their homes, businesses, and public spaces with as many lights as possible.

There’s no limit to what you can do, so let your imagination run wild, Municipal officials added.

Not only will this make our community more festive and welcoming for residents and visitors alike, but it will also help support local businesses.

So start stringing up those lights and help us make Chatham-Kent shine this holiday season, Municipal officials say.

Light Up Chatham-Kent is a community-wide initiative showcasing the different streets and areas decorated for the holiday season.

Through Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent, residents are encouraged to place location pins on a map and add a photograph of their decorations.

Residents and visitors can use the mobile-friendly map on their phones as they drive or walk around Chatham-Kent.

Residents placing a pin on the map will be entered into the ’12 Days of Christmas’ contest for a chance to win a gift card from Canadian Tire.

Those placing a picture of their holiday display along with a pin on the map will be entered into the “Best Light Display” contest.

The contest starts December 1 and community voting for displays will run from December 12-18.

A gift card to Canadian Tire will be given to the top three displays with the most votes.

The Best Light Display and the ’12 Days of Christmas’ contests are sponsored by the Canadian Tire store in Chatham.

“It is a magical time of the year,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff, in a media release.

“Holiday lights bring fond memories and help to highlight the amazing spirit of Chatham-Kent.”
