Ellis Sands

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Ellis Jean Sands (nee Lallean), a member of Walpole Island First Nation on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the age of 92.

She has been reunited with her beloved husband Joseph Sands (1987) and her infant son First Peter.

She will be missed dearly by her children Dale (the late Buffy) Sands, Brenda (the late Robert) Whiteye, Rocky (Martha) Sands, Linda Classens, Judy (the late Bob) Hall, Rosslyn (Doris) Sands, Peter Sands, Joley Sands (Greg) and Lily Sands (the late Rick).

Ellis was a cherished grandmother and will be lovingly remembered by her 33 Grandchildren, 42 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.

Ellis was the last remaining daughter of the late Wilfred and Cecilia Lallean and will be joining her siblings Wilfred Lallean Jr, Leda ‘Leita’ Johnson, Wilma Barrett, Charlene ‘Chick’ Stein and Della ‘Zooders’ Altiman.

She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Ellis was a cherished resident at Lambton Meadowview Villa Long Term Care since February of 2020, her family would like to sincerely thank that staff for all their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home (409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg, 519-627-3231) on Saturday December 3, 2022 for family from 2-4pm and community from 6-8pm.

Her Funeral Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church (99 Thomas Ave Wallaceburg) on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 2pm with visitation beginning at noon.

The Funeral Feast will be held at First Baptist Church following the burial at Highbanks Cemetery.
